Gary Golden established International Marine Insurance Services along with his father, Al Golden, in 1987. That agency, commonly referred to as IMIS, was always dedicated to serving the insurance needs of yachtsmen and, in particular, those of offshore cruisers. Having been born and raised on the shores and waters of the Chesapeake Bay, in 1978, when Gary was thirteen years old, he set sail along with his parents and younger sister on a two‑year offshore cruise aboard a 48′ yawl. After cruising the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean, Gary returned to complete his education which culminated in 1987 with a baccalaureate degree in economics from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. In 2014, Gary set sail on a 15‑month cruise to Florida and the Bahamas with his wife Ruth and son Elliott aboard their Moody 46 cutter Nalani.

Gary resigned from his position as Vice‑president of IMIS upon its sale in 2016 and established Manifest Marine, a similar insurance brokerage dedicated to serving the marine insurance needs of his fellow yachtsmen.

When Gary isn't busy with Manifest Marine, he cruises the Potomac River aboard Nalani and dreams of future passages.
